London’s only dedicated cheese market, also called ‘Cheesewick’, was inspired by Jamie Oliver’s ‘Save British Cheese’ campaign during lockdown with the market starting in 2020. The name Cheesewick or Ceswican is Old English for ‘Cheese Farm’ and was the former name of Chiswick.
Founded and run by The Cookbook Kitchen, a group of all female chefs, restauranteurs, cooks, caterers and cookbook authors who are passionate about Chiswick and about cheese.
The monthly market focuses wholly on cheesemakers, cheesemongers and artisan producers of cheese related items such as bread, crackers, chutney and cheese based street food. Market HQ each month features a themed free tasting and sampling, often hosted by cheesemakers. The market has a wide variety of stalls, many of whom are present every month plus guest appearances. As part of the market, Steve curates and hosts a guided tasting tour of the market starting at 09:45 and 10:45 and lasting for about 45 minutes. The tour helps visitors to navigate their way through the hundreds of cheeses from all over the world that are available, stopping to sample and taste some examples that he has selected as his pick of the market, along with other artisan food delights.
